Morin hydrate
Morin hydrate is a plant flavonoid extracted from yellow Brazil wood with anti-oxidant properties. Previous studies have shown that morin hydrate could protect cells against oxygen radical damage.
In vitro: Morin hydrate at 75-100 µM protected against the oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) induced by free radicals [1]. Morin hydrate at 100 μM concentration effectively inhibited Cu2+-induced oxidation of human LDL [2]. In cultured rat glomerular mesangial cells attacked by oxyradicals, the survival time of the cells was doubled with using morin hydrate [3]. 0.25 – 2.0 mM morin prolonged the survival of rat hepatocytes against free radical damage triggered by xanthine oxidase-hypoxanthine [4]. Morin hydrate could inhibit the amyloid formation by islet amyloid polypeptide and disaggregated amyloid fibers [5].
In vivo: In a 80 min ischemia rat model, treatment of morin at 2.5, 5.0 and 10 μmol/Kg reduced liver necrosis by 51.48 ± 9.94%, 66.55 ± 2.18%, and 79.37 ± 11.03%, respectively [3].
